hello world!

 Hello hello hello!

So this is my first blog post. Well technically third...my first was a blog I had to make in English (is the "E" capitalized? I never remember this E/english convention) class in high school to discuss some books I read. And the second was a blog where I reviewed the free food I ate at Twitter HQ (I did a little summer camp there and tried to pretend that I could code).

So this is my third blog but still technically my first blog post of THIS blog. So I guess that renders the previous paragraph a bit obsolete. Whoops. At least this sets the general tone for this blog: whimsical and almost literate, a wild conglomeration of my thoughts and feelings. All I promise is that it will most definitely be a waste of anyone's time to read, but if I have fun writing it then that's all that matters. :)

Also I did in fact create this blog on the 25th anniversary of the inception of one of my favorite humans of all time. You know who you are :)

My Thoughts on Spices (and maybe an answer to KK #1)

As I've moved, I've been thinking about the hierarchy of spices. Some are simply more essential than others. Number one is cinnamon - for oatmeal of course. I actually brought this with me in my luggage because I had accidentally bought a brand new one out of fear that I didn't already own one. So yes, cinnamon is essential. Does my oatmeal actually taste that much different without it? I'm not sure. Would I like to find out by going cold turkey? Definitely not.  Number two is salt. This actually really does change the flavor profile of almost every food. Go figure. Number three is pepper, only because if you buy cute salt and pepper shakers, you really can't leave the pepper shaker hanging. Or deprive salt of its bffl. But real talk, how often do you go "oh, you know what this could really use? Pepper!" For me the answer is close to never.  Numbers four and five are garlic and onion powder, respectively. My Latest Worry*

When I moved into my own apartment, one of the things I was most excited about was being able to host whoever I wanted, whenever I wanted. For the first time, I was also excited about decorating my place of living and making it feel like a true humble abode, to be enjoyed by all the new friends I'd make and by me, myself & I. But as they say, be careful what you wish for.  In the last couple of weeks, I have made some big (actually literally very small) enemies and have started to go a bit insane. You've seen them. You've been annoyed by them. You wish they didn't exist... ... ...dramatic suspense... ... fruit flies! ... You know when you're too scared by the answer to something that you don't want to even look up the question? That's me with fruit flies right now. I don't want to know if they spread disease, how they lay their eggs, where they came from, or really anything (except for HOW to get rid of them, that I have researched for obvious reason...
