cold showers aren't that bad
Ok so my shower is obviously having a moment. Well, a moment in the grand scheme of many other moments unfortunately...basically, the nozzle controlling the hot water came off, so now all I can do is turn the cold water on and off. I did put in a maintenance request, but the last time I requested work on my shower, the maintenance men (let's call them the M&M's) accidentally turned off my shower water completely. I managed to make it work with some good old-fashioned bucket baths, but you can see why I'm not too excited for the well-intentioned but not sufficiently diligent M&M's to return.
At my old place in San Francisco, the heater didn't work. So during the winter, the only times I felt warm were when I 1) took scalding hot showers, 2) went to a free weekly hot yoga class, and 3) put my face in front of a little space heater for a few minutes at a time to avoid crazy electric bills. Needless to say, I left those showers with red skin and hot hair every time, and attended those free hot yoga classes like a true yogi.
But now, even though I am in a city known for the brutal cold, my apartment is actually always pretty warm, even at night. It is true that it has been 70-80 degrees the past week but still! I have been nothing but HOT in Chicago and I am proud!
Ok back to my shower. So, what I'm saying is that I have now taken two cold showers and haven't hated them! I feel that I am changed. I feel that I have evolved. Once you get over the initial discomfort and allow yourself to audibly gasp every few seconds, the cold water really isn't that bad. Maybe I'll just go ahead and cancel my maintenance request.
Ok JK I still want the option of taking hot showers. Not that I will because again, I have evolved. But you know.
i said it first here!
